Motivation:

Online tourist information is key factor for advertising both natural and manmade tourist attractions and thus allowing visitors to access information anywhere and anytime. Phuket is well known as the world tourist destination. However, Phuket's tourism Information, including contents and locations, are not yet stored nor visualized systematically. As a result, tourists either could not access the correct information or could not absorb and learn the history, lifestyle, identity, and culture in those visiting attractions.

Objective:

This study is to create the web-based GIS of tourist attractions in Phuket for storing and displaying contents and photos provided by the visitors. These convey their feeling and impression on the places of visit, which in turn, advertising Phuket in such a way that has never been discovered before.

Methods:

Applications of web-based GIS have been performed in our study to focus on travelers’ recognition of identities and community ways of life, and to reflect the feeling of tourists’ impression to their places of visit.

Outcomes:

  • Visitors get to know the identities of Phuket based on local lifestyle and culture.
